Metaphoric Perceptions of Pre-service Primary School Teachers on Reading and Reading Disability

There is widespread acknowledgement that importance of reading skill increasing day by day. Reading the first step to learning and revealing something new. Beyond primary grades, it plays a vital role in keeping up with requirements age. Individuals who read, understand, question, think produce develop societies. Thus, inevitable individuals have difficulties acquiring will encounter both school life society. To remove barriers people presence academic daily life, students these should be identified as early possible they experience eliminated. The proficiency pre-service teachers regarding concepts “reading’’ “reading difficulty’’ gives clues for identifying remedying disabilities. It aimed determine metaphorical perceptions towards disability’’ order help address this issue. study group research consists 89 4thgrade continue their education at state university Black Sea Region Turkey fall semester 2017-2018 year. model phenomenology which one qualitative methods. A questionnaire developed researchers was used data collection tool. Content analysis method data. Five different categories related skills disabilities emerged result Categories concept are 'Discovering Something New', 'Fun Source', 'Embarking on Adventure', 'Decoding' 'Other'. disability 'Difficulty', 'A problem itself', 'Visual impairment', 'Deficiencies' 'An insurmountable problem'.
